Well, for once the Black Cocky was wrong.
Usually the calls of this bird signal the coming of rain...not this time.
This Yellow tailed avian was seen in pine trees near my place, with a mate, calling those rain clouds...but they never came.
This was the day before the Robbo Show.....
Last year the entrants in the smash up derby had trouble seeing each other for the fog....nothing unusual about that, happens every year... That's the way we like it :)
This year was rainless, fog less and moderate of temperature.
Still, everyone grinned and bore it.
The Fireworks were a treat....some photos below
Denis has a nice writeup of the events on his blogsite.
Hi David,
ReplyDeleteYour Black Cockie phot shows the yellow tail-panels beautifully. I have been trying to capture that angle for years. No end of dark shapes sitting high in Pine Trees,, or funny shapes in the sky. But never the yellow tail. Well done.
Glad you got the Fireworks shots. One of these days I'll come with you, and let you show me how to take those shots. But last night I was too tired, and Zoe and her friend Dierdre wanted dinner (and so did I).
Thanks for the cross-link.
Cheers
Denis
The Black Cockatoo species are awesome. Unfortunately for me, the only time that I have sen one is in a pet store.
ReplyDeleteWe also need rain here in Florida, as we are in a drought!
This is an awesome species of the parrot family. Unfortunately for me, the only time that I have seen a specimen is in a pet store.
ReplyDeleteWe are desperately needing rain in Florida!
David,
ReplyDeletePlease excuse this cross-posting message, but I would like Joe to contact me directly. He is the guy who posted about the huge python eating a small alligator - which I referred to you, a few weeks ago.
Hi Joe
I recall your previous comments on The Nature of Robertson (my blog) and your interest in parrots (and reptiles). Would you please email me, via My Profile. Then I can send you various other parrot image which do not always "fit" with my themes of my blog. But happy to send directly to you.
Cheers
Denis
Thanks for the comments guys :)
ReplyDeleteIn case we dont get the chance soon Denis (and anyone else who would give shooting fireworks a go)...
The shots were taken at the following settings...
5 seconds/ISO 80/f 2.7 :)
(use a tripod)
Im sorry to hear you are in drought Joe, though soon you will have flooding rains (no doubt) such are the extremes the world is undergoing. Its only just started I fear....just keep an eye on that black cocky in the pet store...they are usually right :)
Cheers,
Dave
